Roadway paving work on Palos Verdes Drive North, between Dapplegray Elementary School and Palos Verdes Drive East, and on Montecillo Drive, from Palos Verdes Drive North to Encanto Drive, began today and has been extended through Saturday, March 16. Work is being extended for a few reasons. First, as you’ll recall from our prior email, the temperature must remain at 55 degrees or higher during work hours to allow the asphalt to compact effectively. Based on the forecast, the temperature on Saturday is expected to be more favorable for paving, so crews will grind the road on Friday and conduct final paving overlay on Saturday. Secondly, this additional day will allow crews to replace the existing steel plates with newly coated, non-skid plates and recessing them so they are flush with the road. This will increase traction and allow for a smoother, more even drive for residents and commuters. Two crews will be working from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but may start setting up as early as 8:30 a.m. to allow for work to begin promptly at 9 a.m.
- During work hours, there will be an eastbound lane closure on Palos Verdes Drive North, from Rolling Hills Road to Palos Verdes Drive East, and a clearly marked detour for eastbound traffic beginning at Rolling Hills Road as well as Crenshaw Boulevard. The westbound lane of Palos Verdes Drive North will remain open at all times. Included below is a graphic outlining the detour. There will be workers stationed along Palos Verdes Drive North to help direct traffic and provide assistance. For more details about paving, please click here.
Paving of the Jack Kramer Club driveway apron is expected to take place this week. We are working with the Jack Kramer Club and the City of Rolling Hills Estates to coordinate all necessary details.
Crews will continue to conduct minor finishing work, including the cleaning and grouting of pipes on Palos Verdes Drive North, from Dapplegray Elementary School to Palos Verdes Drive East. Work is expected to occur from Monday to Friday, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. or 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. At least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times.
Work continues in the Botanic Garden Trail, between Lariat Lane and Crenshaw Boulevard, from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. During this time, the Botanic Garden Trail will remain closed and we encourage riders to avoid the area due to construction-related noise that may startle a horse.
A reminder that the Dapplegray Elementary School access road is closed to the public as work continues. Parents can use the access road leading to the ballfield for practices starting at 3:30 p.m.
Construction is ongoing at the new pump station site on Crenshaw Boulevard, north of Silver Spur Road, from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. During work hours, traffic control will be in place and there will be at least one lane of traffic open in each direction at all times.
Please refer to the timeline on our Map & Timeline page for the most updated information. Please note that the construction dates outlined in the timeline are estimates, rather than exact deadlines, and the duration of work may change based on a number of factors like inclement weather or unknowable field circumstances.
